Life Insurance
As a new hire, who is under the age of 65, the district offers $10,000 Group Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance, guaranteed issue, through Symetra for new active full-time board members and employees working a minimum of 20 hours each week at a cost of $5.22 per month. If the new hire is over the age of 65, the district offers $7,500 at a cost of $3.92 and if the new hire is over the age of 70, the district offers $5,000 at a cost of $2.61 Group Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance, guaranteed issue, through Symetra for new active full-time board members and employees working a minimum of 20 hours each week.
If the new employee purchases the Group Basic Life Insurance, they may also purchase life insurance on their spouse and children, up to the age of 26. This is your only opportunity to request life insurance without requiring approval by the life insurance carrier. If you purchase Group Basic Life Insurance, you have the option to purchase supplemental life insurance. Benefit reductions occur at age 65.
If your spouse and their children are on your life insurance, and you divorce, your spouse and their children must come off your life insurance. Please contact us, at the time of divorce, to have them removed. Your kids can remain dependents on your life insurance until they turn 26 years of age and are covered through the last day of the month they turn 26. Call the Insurance Office, for either of these changes as this could result in a lower premium.
If you fail to enroll in the guaranteed issue life insurance as a new hire, you may apply for life insurance by requesting an Evidence of Insurability form which asks health related questions by contacting the Insurance Department. Coverage can be approved or declined by the life insurance company based on this information.
