That is why you need disability coverage. It replaces a portion of income for the period of time you are unable to work due to those reasons.<\/p>\n<p>You are able to choose the <strong><em>benefit amount<\/em><\/strong> which is the amount of your income to replace, and the<strong><em> waiting period <\/em><\/strong>that you begin receiving payments.<\/p>\n<p>How do you decide if you need disability insurance?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Consider these questions when making your decision:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How much employer leave do you have?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have savings?<\/li>\n<li>Do you have other income you can rely on, such as from your spouse or from child support?<\/li>\n<li>How close are you to retirement?<\/li>\n<li>Could you go on Social Security Disability or take a Disability Retirement?<\/li>\n<li>What are your other sources of income?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Long-Term Disability coverage offers financial protection (up to 66 2\/3 % of your monthly salary) after being disabled for a minimum of 7 days. The Long-Term Disability benefit pays a maximum benefit up to $8,000 per month. You can receive benefits up to age 65 or as long as you remain disabled, whichever comes first for an accident related disability. You can receive benefits for up to 3 years for sickness. As an employee, you will pay the full cost of this plan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In order to be eligible for Long Term Disability you must be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First day of active employment<\/li>\n<li>Considered full-time, permanent status. Some exclusions apply, see full policy for details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>ANYONE ELECTING COVERAGE AS A NEW HIRE AND\/OR DURING ENROLLMENT, WILL BE SUBJECT TO THE COMPANY&#8217;S PRE-EXISTING
